I met Bill once. But that was all it took for him to make an impression on me. The grandfather of a co worker, he had an incredible spirit and stories to tell. He built the very house he lived in and had great dexterity in his potato peeling!
I visit Phillip Toledano’s Days with My Father series frequently. Between the touching imagery and the eloquent way in which he describes this project, I find myself being drawn to the work time and time again. http://www.dayswithmyfather.com/#/0 I have always had an interest in older generations. There is something that I just find inherently interesting about them. Maybe it is that I find the lines on their face and hands to be indicative of something more meaningful. A history, a story to tell, a past that is worth exploring perhaps. There is also an intrinsic sense of urgency in capturing or documenting this with every passing year. At a recent shoot I got to meet an incredibly interesting woman named Lilian. It was her 102 birthday and she was celebrating it at a speakeasy bar in NYC, one that replicated the same bars she used to go to growing up in the city…and yes, that is wine in her cup!!
One of the greatest aspects of my job is getting to meet interesting people. This was no exception! Barry turned his entire apartment into a Tikki themed space.
